Drill types

Drills overlap in basic function, but power source, hammer action, size, and controls make different designs better suited to different jobs.

Chucks and drill bits

Chuck size limits the shank diameter a drill can hold, while bit design, shank type, material, and tool capacity determine which accessories suit the job.

Speed, gears and controls

Speed, gear, clutch, and mode settings should match the bit diameter, material, and task, with larger or heavier work generally favoring lower speed.
